APPALACHIAN TRAIL
The Historic
Appalachian National Scenic Trail meanders north/south for
approximately 2170 miles following the ancient Appalachian Mountain
chain through fourteen states in the Eastern United States. The
southern terminus is atop Springer Mountain in Northern Georgia. The
northern terminus is atop Baxter Peak on Mount Katahdin in Central
Maine. The trail was conceived in the early 1900's, and was
completed in the 1930's. The Appalachian Trail corridor has been
designated a National Park and is administered by the National Park
Service and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, and is maintained by
volunteers...

APPALACHIAN TRAIL
COMMUNITY
In 1948, a young man donned a backpack and
hiked the entire distance along the Appalachian Trail as one
continuous journey. This began the "thru-hiking" tradition which is
very popular today. The Appalachian Trail Conference has adopted the
term "2000 miler" to describe hikers that have completed the entire
trail, whether thru-hiking or "section hiking". Section hikers are
those that complete the whole trail a bit at a time. Most of the
people that hike on the Appalachian Trail, though, are vacation
hikers, weekend hikers, and day-hikers. There are as many reasons
for hiking along the Appalachian Trail as there are
hikers...

ABOUT HIKE-USA
HIKE-USA was formed in
1997 and, that year, had a successful supported northbound

SUPPORTED ADVENTURE
HIKING
It is our goal to provide you with an exciting and
rewarding un-guided hiking, or multi-recreational, adventure.
Our support vehicle(s) will carry your food, water, supplies, and
gear while you hike with only the necessities for the day. In the
evenings, you will tent as a group at trailheads or at campgrounds.
Occasionally we will head for town. When in town, you will stay in
motel rooms, and eat at restaurants. When tenting, you will set up
and tear down your own tents, and cook your own meals...

LET US DESIGN A HIKING ADVENTURE FOR YOU ALONG THE APPALACHIAN TRAIL
Supported hiking is what we do. We take the pack off of your back, and allow you to hike long-distances unburdened. Vacation from work? Break from school? Mid-life crisis? Just retired? The Appalachian Trail in Georgia and North Carolina is what we know best. We concentrate our efforts there, but we will create an adventure for you anywhere along the trail from Georgia to Maine. Get at least five people together, give us a call, and we'll schedule your hike. You'll hopefully call at least six months before you intend to hike. Later will probably work, but the early bird gets the worm. All of our adventures are custom made for you...
The basic cost for a supported hike is $100/day/person, with a 5-person/7-day minimum (that translates to a $3500 minimum cost). This cost provides you 24/7 support which includes needed transport to/from trailheads, all food/meals, all lodgings, plenty of fresh water, and our smiling faces. This 'basic' hike is the way to go in our estimation and includes motels/restaurants generally twice weekly. The rest of the time we tent/eat as a group at trailheads/campgrounds. If you want motels/restaurants every night, the cost increases dramatically...
You hike daily with a daypack filled with the water/food/supplies necessary for that day. You are dropped you off at trailheads in the morning, and picked at trailheads later in the day. We all then tent/eat together as a group, or head to town for a motel/restaurant. We at HIKE-USA make all of the arrangements. Your end of the bargain is to hike and enjoy yourself...
If you would like us to provide your gear, there will be an additional cost...
