APPALACHIAN TRAIL

The Historic Appalachian National Scenic Trail meanders north/south for approximately 2167 miles following the ancient Appalachian Mountain chain through fourteen states in the Eastern United States. The southern terminus is atop Springer Mountain in Northern Georgia. The northern terminus is atop Baxter Peak on Mount Katahdin in Central Maine. The trail was conceived in the early 1900's, and was completed in the 1930's. The Appalachian Trail corridor has been designated a National Park and is administered by the National Park Service and the Appalachian Trail Conference, and is maintained by volunteers...

APPALACHIAN TRAIL COMMUNITY

In 1948, a young man donned a backpack and hiked the entire distance along the Appalachian Trail as one continuous journey. This began the "thru-hiking" tradition which is very popular today. The Appalachian Trail Conference has adopted the term "2000 miler" to describe hikers that have completed the entire trail, whether thru-hiking or "section hiking". Section hikers are those that complete the whole trail a bit at a time. Most of the people that hike on the Appalachian Trail, though, are vacation hikers, weekend hikers, and day-hikers. There are as many reasons for hiking along the Appalachian Trail as there are hikers...

ABOUT HIKE-USA

HIKE-USA was formed in 1997 and, that year, had a successful supported northbound end-to-end adventure hike of the Appalachian Trail. Since then, HIKE-USA has assisted many hikers to enjoy the wonders of the trail. The owner of HIKE-USA will be your host for most of our adventures. His name is Richard Mann, but the name he uses ( his trailname ) is PITTSBURGH. When emailing or calling, you will be talking with TINK, a very special lady that can answer all of your questions...

SUPPORTED ADVENTURE HIKING

It is our goal to provide you with an exciting and rewarding un-guided Appalachian Trail adventure. Our support vehicle(s) will carry your food, water, supplies, and gear while you hike with only the necessities for the day. In the evenings, we will tent as a group at trailheads or at campgrounds. Occasionally we will head for town. When in town, we will stay in motel rooms, and eat at restaurants. When tenting, you will set up and tear down your own tents, and cook your own meals...

NO TOBACCO - NO ALCOHOL - NO DRUGS - NO ANIMALS - NO WEAPONS

Our BIG FIVE guidelines are not in any way an attempt to impose our morals. Rather, they are designed to promote harmony within our groups. We feel that, in this light, they are self-explanatory. A few words about drugs are in order: Prescription drugs are obviously permitted, but please be sure to disclose them on your registration form. We cannot purchase or dispense any over-the-counter drugs. Any over-the-counter drugs that you wish to use should be with you when you arrive...
